Beaver Activity & Wildlife Management Update – June 21, 2025
As of today, the Maryland Wildlife Company has completed several key actions to address the ongoing beaver activity in the area:
Wildlife Cameras Installed: Cameras have been strategically placed to monitor and track beaver movements and behaviors.
Dam Removal: Several beaver dams have been successfully dismantled to restore water flow and reduce flooding concerns.
Beaver Deceivers Installed: Devices known as beaver deceivers have been added to help prevent the animals from re-damming specific areas. These tools allow water to flow without triggering the beavers’ instinct to build.
Wildlife Trapping: Unfortunately, the beaver population has increased in the county-managed reserve areas. As a result, lethal trapping measures have been implemented in coordination with wildlife management guidelines to help control the population and prevent further environmental damage. In addition, some beavers and snapping turtles have been humanely trapped and relocated as part of the broader ecosystem management plan.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to restore healthy water flow and reduce damage to community infrastructure while maintaining balance with local wildlife. Continued monitoring will ensure these solutions remain effective.
